Bishr Khasawneh, Jordan’s Prime Minister, said on Monday the government is continuing its efforts to monitor the market and prevent infringements on citizens’ livelihoods. During a meeting at the Lower House of Parliament, the PM urged commitment to price caps for a number of essential commodities set by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply.

Jordan officials are constantly monitoring price hikes - PMHe said the government would, under the authority of the law, take action against anyone who violated the rights of citizens, citing a few fines issued by the Jordan Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply and cases that were referred to the Public Prosecutor. He said administrative governors across the Kingdom had been instructed to investigate price hikes, noting that citizens could make complaints with the ministry and the government would address the issue fully.

Khasawneh stressed the government’s commitment to taking steps to alleviate any possible economic repercussions for citizens and their livelihoods, especially those with low incomes. The PM also denied rumors that the government is offering investment opportunities outside the legal boundaries in the Karak governorate, stressing that only legal investment opportunities will be made available.
